SWR achieves a Record of Loading the Highest number of Wagons per day

South Western Railways (SWR) has loaded 2604 wagons o­n 26th March 2021, which is the highest single-day wagon loading (of the period between 2017 to 2021). Hubballi Division has loaded 2007 wagons, while Mysuru and Bengaluru division loaded 447 wagons and 150 wagons respectively.

SWR has been steadily loading above 3.10 Million Tonnes every month and so far loaded 37.40 Million Tonnes till 26th March 2021 which is about 97.4% of the target of the FY 2020-21. Also, o­n 25 March 2021 loaded 2594 wagons which is the second-highest wagons loading during the financial year 2020-21.

In a bid to double the Freight Volume by 2024 and attract more Freight traffic, the Ministry of Railways has advised Zonal Railways to set up Business Development Units (BDUs) at all Zonal and Divisional levels. Business Development Units (BDU) was set up on SWR in April 2020, both at the Zonal and Divisional Levels. The BDUs have shown a consistent improvement in Freight Loading.

Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, GM SWR has informed that the Freight Operations are being ramped up and all efforts are being made to ensure Smooth and Timely transportation of Essential Commodities. Industries are now picking up and willing to transport more Goods and Commodities due to flexible schemes, Lower tariffs, Faster movement, Safe, Secure, and hassle-free transportation by Railways, he added.
