Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw will inaugurate the renovated Dharwad Railway Station tomorrow (11th October 2022).
South Western Railway (SWR) had undertaken the beautification works at Dharwad Railway Station at a cost of ₹ 20 Crores. The renovation works were completed recently.
The railway station at Dharwad has been renovated to reflect the Local history, Heritage, Culture and Contribution of Dharwad towards Music, Art and other forms.
To depict the culture and heritage of Dharwad, local artists have created paintings and artforms inside the terminal to help visitors understand the importance of Dharwad.
Another major attraction of the railway station is the state of the art Vertical Garden developed at the entrance of the Railway Station which is attracting the railway passengers.
Union minister and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi had laid the foundation stone for the renovation of Dharwad Railway Station on December 28th, 2018.
Apart from the inauguration of Dharwad railway station, Ashwini Vaishnaw will also inaugurate 3rd entrance of Hubballi Railway Station and remodelled Hubballi yard.
Dharwad has its own importance as far as Indian Railways is concerned. The Southern Mahratta Railway company was established in 1882 with its headquarters at Dharwad.
Southern Mahratta Railway had its headquarters at current Karnataka College, Dharwad. The company laid its first standard metre gauge railway line from Bellary to Hospet.
