Construction of Flyover to start near Chennamma Circle soon

Rani Chennamma Circle flyover, one of the important projects of Hubballi city is making constant progress. Construction is likely to start at the Chennamma Circle soon.

Jandu Construction, the contractor executing the project has placed the barricades near the Chennamma Circle. They have started excavating the land for the flyover.

Managing the traffic at Chennamma Circle is going to be a herculean task for the Hubballi Dharwad Traffic Police as the flyover construction will make the area narrow, posing challenges for commuters.

The Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle situated in the centre of Hubballi city near to the old bus stand is also known as Traffic Island. It is a bustling traffic junction where eight roads intersect, making it the busiest intersection in the area.

As far as the other parts of the flyover is concerned, Pier and Pier cap construction (The substructure part) for one arm of the flyover descending towards Gokul Road is completed till Vani Vilas Circle near Hosur.

As far as Superstructure is concerned, Girders have been placed from Hosur circle towards Vani Vilas Circle except near Vikas Nagar junction The barrier work is in progress.

Also, Pier and Pier cap construction (The substructure part) for one arm of the flyover towards Desai circle (Bagalkot Road) has been completed till the Desai Circle Road Over Bridge.

There are plans to extend the Chennamma Circle flyover in Hubballi till the Gabbur Cross next to the Pune Bengaluru highway (AH-48). However, there is no clarity on the same yet.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways had laid the Foundation stone for the Construction of the flyover virtually around a year back (15th January 2021).

Glimpse of the Rani Chennamma Circle flyover in Hubballi

Central Government had approved the construction of an Elevated Corridor/Flyover at Rani Chennamma Circle of Hubballi at a cost of ₹298 Crores.

The Elevated Corridor/Flyover of 3.6km will have all Safety provisions like Crash barriers, Lighting, Signboards, and Markings will be implemented to ease traffic congestion.

As per the plan, the flyover will be an oval-shaped structure that covers the entire circle. A 4-lane road would connect Ambedkar circle via Lamington Road.

From the elevated corridor, A 2-lane road would proceed towards Hosur Circle via IT Park and a similar road will connect Bagalkot/Vijayapura Road via Desai Cross.
