The World’s Longest Railway Platform at Shri Siddharooda Swamiji (SSS) Hubballi junction railway station will be inaugurated by January 2023.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the World’s Longest Railway Platform built at Hubballi Railway Station. PM Modi is visiting Karnataka in January.
Union minister and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi informed the same while performing Bhoomi pooja to a few development works undertaken at Ward number 38 (the area around Unkal).
South Western Railway (SWR) has constructed the longest platform to operate more trains from Hubballi simultaneously. The length of the World’s Longest Railway platform at Hubballi is 1,505m.
Construction of the longest platform has also increased the number of platforms to 8 from 5. SWR has already started originating/terminating trains from Platforms 6,7 & 8.
The longest platform also facilitates the operation of 2 trains at a time. It also reduces the wait time for the trains entering Hubballi. Due to a lack of platforms, trains used to wait at Hubballi outer to get clearance.
The project including the Remodeling of Hubballi yard has cost SWR a whopping ₹90 Crores (Part of Guntakal to Vasco and Bengaluru to Hubballi doubling project).
Recently, Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw had inaugurated the 3rd entrance to the Hubballi Railway Station. Hubballi junction is one of the very few railway stations to have the 3rd entrance.
Gorakhpur Railway Station (Hq of North Eastern Railway) previously had the longest Railway platform in the World (1,366m).
