Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has asked NHAI to float tender immediately to widen Hubballi-Dharwad bypass into 6 lanes. Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi and Hubballi Central MLA Jagadish Shettar attended the meeting with NHAI officials. Nandi Highway Development Limited (NHDL) has agreed to let widening of HD bypass.
The existing 2 Lane Bypass is quite dangerous as it witnessed 422 accidents in the last decade resulting in the death of 164 souls. Citizens of Hubballi Dharwad have been demanding the widening of bypass for since long, but it looks like the time has arrived now.
As per the plan, the existing 2 lane bypass will be Widened to 6 lanes with 2 lane Service Roads on either side. The DPR for the same has already been drafted.
As many as 21 underpasses will be built across the bypass, some with 5.5 Meters in Height and some with 4 Meters in Height and Width being 12 Meters.
