Vice President to inaugurate facilities at IIT Dharwad tomorrow

Honourable Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will visit Dharwad tomorrow. He will inaugurate some of the facilities at the permanent campus of IIT, Dharwad.

Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate the Knowledge Resource and Data Centre (KRDC) and Central Learning Theatre (CLT) and the Main Gate complex.

During his one-day tour, Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will also lay the foundation stone for the Rooftop Solar Panel facility at the institute.

Central Learning Theater (CLT): The Central Learning Theater (CLT) is a classic and energy-efficient building that is made up of 17535 cubic meters of concrete and 3800 metric tons of steel.

It has a single ramp that provides easy access to learning rooms of various sizes, including a 600-seat auditorium. An elegant cantilevered classrooms and a courtyard with lush greenery complements the massive 60 meter fabric dome.

Knowledge Resource and Data Centre (KRDC): Knowledge Resource and Data Centre (KRDC) is built using 7160 cubic meters of concrete and 1352 metric tons of steel in 8540 square meters of area.

Knowledge Resource and Data Centre (KRDC) has access to various digital resources. With its vast collection of digital resources, KRDC offers users the opportunity to explore and discover new information across various topics and subjects.

The gallery at the top of the building offers a panoramic view of the tallest structures of Hubli-Dharwad. A cantilever roof spanning 24 meters (KRDC) makes it one of beautiful structures in the campus.

Main Gate Complex: Main Gate Complex at IIT Dharwad is a two-storied structure that blends the grandeur of Hampi (a UNESCO world heritage site) with modern functionalities.

Its chariot-inspired design conceals structural connections in artistic stone wheels. The gateway not only strengthens the campus but also combines tradition and sophistication.

The Vice President will also be the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the M.M. Joshi Eye Institute’s ‘EYESIRI’, a new super-speciality eye hospital.

Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT Dharwad) is an autonomous premier Technology Institute established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in the year 2016.

IIT, Dharwad was formally inaugurated on 28 August 2016. IIT, Dharwad is one amongst the 23 IIT’s in the country. IIT, Dharwad has been established under the mentorship of IIT Bombay.

Initially, the institute offered Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

Now, the institute also offers B.Tech courses in Engineering Physics, Civil Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, and Mathematics & Computing.
