South Western Railway (SWR) headquartered at Hubballi has become the leading Zone of the Indian Railways in terms of Key Performance Indices (KPIs) as of March 2023.
Key Performance Indicators are a complex system of measurement of performance of Railways in various spheres including Safety, Freight, HR, Finance and Operational parameters, and reflects the overall performance of the zone.
South Western Railway’s outstanding performance across multiple spheres highlights its commitment to excellence.
South Western Railway is making pioneering efforts to enhance railway connectivity in the jurisdiction it serves. In the last financial year of 2022-23, SWR has made focussed efforts to improve the mobility of trains through various measures.
Among all the zones of IR, SWR has achieved a visible improvement in mobility by 53% – the average speed of goods trains (including stabling and yarding) increased from 13.97 kmph in April 2022 to 21.6 kmph in April 2023.
Also, South Western Railway has recorded the highest-ever earnings as well as freight loading performance in 2022-23 by generating a Gross Revenue of ₹8071 Crores.
Gross revenue of ₹8071 Crores included Passenger Revenue of ₹2756 crores, Freight Revenue of ₹4696 crores, Sundry Revenue of ₹348 crores, and from Other means around ₹271 crores.
