No shortage of Beds and Oxygen in Dharwad District: DC

Dharwad District consumes around 40 tons of Oxygen every day; There is no shortage of Beds and Oxygen for Covid treatment: Nitesh Patil, DC.

‘Since the severity of the Second wave is more compared to the previous one, 40 tons of Oxygen is being used every day, There is no Shortage of Oxygen, Ventilators and ICU Beds in the District’ said the DC Nitesh Patil.

Required Oxygen is being procured from the Bellary district. Oxygen Refilling units are functioning in the District. Using these units Oxygen is being Supplied to various Districts in North Karnataka including Dharwad.

Last year the daily consumption of Oxygen was used to be 20 tons. Due to the increased severity of Covid cases this year, the oxygen utilization has increased to 40 tons/day. There has been no shortage of Oxygen to date in the District. DC informed that the District Administration is taking steps to make sure that there is no Shortage of Oxygen.

1753 Covid-19 patients are being treated in various hospitals including KIMS, Hubballi and District hospitals. Among them, 742 patients are being treated in the KIMS hospital. As of now, 32 Ventilators and 757 beds are free as informed by the DC. Presently, 371 covid patients are getting treated in the ICU. 180 Ventilators are available in the District. Amongst them, 148 are occupied and 32 are available for use.

The district is getting a continuous supply of Remdesivir vial. The district administration is making sure that the Medicine is distributed to the required hospitals immediately.

The Government is distributing Covishield Vaccine on priority to the district, the next installment of vaccine will arrive on Wednesday. The district administration has taken the steps to provide the vaccine in a timely manner said the DC.

Those who have been vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield can get the second dose between 6 to 8 weeks after the first dose. There is no need to panic in case of a small change in the time period between the doses as informed by the doctors.

85% of new cases of Covid-19 are being observed in the urban areas of Hubballi Dharwad, About 15% of the new Covid-19 cases are being observed in the rural part. Every day, Swab of almost 4000 people are being collected for testing.

‘Positive reports are being informed within 24 to 36 hours. There might be ‘delay in providing Negative reports. The Covid Laboratories of the Dharwad district are experiencing a High Workload since the samples from the neighboring districts are being sent to Dharwad said the DC Nitesh Patil.
