Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan virtually inaugurated the Outreach Service Center of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing(AIISH), Mysuru established at KIMS Campus, Hubballi.
Announcing the same on Twitter, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Coal and Mines, Shri Pralhad Joshi said KIMS identifies around 3,000 patients with Communication Disorders and they had to be sent to Mysuru for treatment.
He also said that every year around 10,000 newborn babies require screening facilities and the new Outreach Service Center will help in providing quality medical care.
Expressing his appreciation, Union Minister for Health Dr. Harsh Vardhan congratulated AIISH, Mysuru, and said “The number of individuals existing with such disorders and the Lack of Professionals to cater the need warrants the need for initiation of Outreach Service Centers in the hospitals across the country”.
He added, “We should aim to reach out the underserved and unserved areas in the country to cater to the needs of individuals with Communication Disorders. This will enable early identification and diagnosis of Communication Disorders and thereby preventing further deficits in Speech, Language, and Cognition”.
Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi had written to the director of AIISH, Mysuru in 2019 to establish an Outreach Service Center in North Karnataka. He thanked AIISH director M. Pushpavathi, PM Shri Narendra Modi, and Union Health Minister Shri Harshavardhan for establishing OSC of AIISH at Hubballi.
Apart from KIMS Hubballi, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has established 5 more Outreach Service Centers of AIISH, Mysuru across India. They are as follows:
- Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, Bihar.
- Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bidar, Karnataka.
- Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences, Belagavi, Karnataka.
- Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research, Kolar, Karnataka.
- AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
