Here is some good news for the people of Shivamogga! India’s largest airline, IndiGo will start direct flight to Bengaluru from Shivamogga Airport with effective from August 31.
IndiGo has decided to deploy 78-seater ATR-72 aircraft for the same. The flight will operate on all days of the week. Bookings for the same have already been opened in IndiGo website.
The schedule of flight is as follows: Bengaluru to Shivamogga flight (6E-7731) leaves Bengaluru Airport (BLR) at 9:50 AM and reaches Shivamogga Airport (RQY) at 11:05 AM.
Shivamogga to Bengaluru flight (6E-7732) leaves Shivamogga Airport (RQY) at 11:25 AM and reaches Bengaluru Airport (BLR) at 12:25 PM.
IndiGo has fixed a fare of ₹3,999 for both the sectors (Shivamogga to Bengaluru flight and Bengaluru to Shivamogga flight). The fare of the inauguration flight has gone up to ₹6,647.
Shivamogga Airport (IATA: RQY, ICAO: VOSH), officially named as Kuvempu Airport, is a Domestic Airport serving the city of Shivamogga. It is located at Sogane around 8.8 km from Shivamogga.
Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra said that “The Shivamogga Airport will establish itself as not merely an airport, but as the gateway of Malnad region’s journey to transformation”.
“The Airport will cater to the demand of not just the people of Shivamogga but also the entire Central Karnataka. It will give wings of aspirations to the youth and will create lakhs of employment opportunities for them”, he added.
The airport is designed to operate Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 type aircraft, and can handle about 350 peak hour passengers. The airport was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on February 27, 2023.
