Hubli Ankola railway line gets budgetary allocation of ₹5 Crores

Hubli Ankola Railway line project, one of the most anticipated projects connecting Coastal Karnataka with mainland Karnataka has received a budgetary allocation of nearly ₹5 Crores.

The central government has accorded a sum of ₹4.99 Crores towards the construction of the Hubli Ankola Railway line in the Interim budget of 2024.

Details of the Hubli Ankola Railway line: The railway line connects Hubballi in Dharwad district with Ankola in Uttara Kannada (Karwar) district. The total length of the new railway line is likely to be 164.44 km.

Expected stoppages along the route: Hubballi South, Mishrikoti, Kalaghatagi, Kirwatti, Yellapur, Kanchimane, Ramanguli, Sunksal, Honalli, Navagadde, and Ankola.

Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee performed Bhoomi Pooja for the Construction of the Hubballi Ankola Railway Line in 2002. However, the project was delayed due to opposition from environmentalists.

South Western Railway (SWR) has called tenders to conduct the Final Location Survey (FLS) for the Hubli Ankola Railway line. FLS is conducted for constructing new lines, doubling of railway lines etc.

Recently, the Karnataka High Court accorded the Green signal for the much-awaited Hubballi Ankola Railway Line project clearing all the hurdles of the project.

The new railway line is expected to improve the connectivity of Uttara Kannada district with mainland Karnataka and boost the economic activities of the district.
