Hubballi’s Unkal Lake gets a Walking Path

Unkal Lake, one of the most visited tourist attractions in Hubballi city has got another feather in its cap in the form of a Walking Path encircling the entire lake.

Unkal Lake has got Walking Path under the Smart City funds. Walking across the lake, one can enjoy the beautiful views of the Lake, most enjoyed during Sunrise and Sunset.

Hubballi Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL) has undertaken the task of beautifying the Unkal Lake. The project is being executed in two phases, details are as follows.

The first phase of the redevelopment plan included the Removal of silt, Installation of Submerged Aerators and Floating Raptors, Removal of Hyacinth from the Lake surface, etc.

The first phase of the Unkal Lake beautification was undertaken at a cost of ₹14.83 Crores. The Aerators installed in the lake help to increase the Dissolved oxygen in the water body thereby cleaning it naturally.

In the second phase, HDSCL has undertaken the task of constructing a 5km Walking Path with Pavers and Guard rails. The work includes the installation of Electric poles and Benches.

Unkal Lake (the biggest lake in Hubballi) was constructed in the year 1893 as the main source of water supply for the city. The lake is spread across an area of 260 acres.

Unkal Lake was the main source of drinking water for Hubballi until other augmentation schemes were taken up to meet the needs of ever growing population of Hubli City.
