The District Administration carried out a clearance drive of Footpath encroachments around major market areas of Hubballi yesterday. Dharwad DC Nitesh Patil said that the Road and Footpath clearance drive was being carried out at Koppikar Road and Dajibanpet areas as per the request of the public.
The clearance drive was carried out around Dajibanpet, Pendar Galli, Belagavi Galli, Durgad Bail and Kaladagi Oni etc. Speaking to media persons, Dharwad DC Nitish Patil said that the administration is focussing on clearing the Footpaths and Roads that have been encroached by Shop owners.
Fifteen days ago, District Administration had issued a warning to shop owners to clear encroachments with the help of HDMC officials and Police officers. But the shop owners continued to encroach footpath. As a result, the district administration had to carry out clearance drive.
Dharwad DC also said that they will not stop Encroachment Clearance drive and they will continue it. He also said that “Though Koppikar Road and Dajibanpet roads are wide enough, Citizens are facing inconvenience as shop owners have encroached part of the Road and the Footpath.
HDMC has identified 94 roads in Hubballi Dharwad to be used as Parking Zones and 24 roads as Pedestrian friendly roads. Around 54 roads have been identified as hawker zones across Hubballi Dharwad. The suggestions have been sent to the Police Commissioner and they will issue notification soon.
HDMC Commissioner Suresh Itnal, Deputy Commissioner of Police K Ramarajan, Hubballi Tahsildar Shashidar Madyal and others were present.
