South Western Railway (SWR) has floated the tender to develop the infrastructure for homing 50 Electric locomotives at the Diesel Loco Shed, Hubballi (DLS UBL).
The tender document also mentions about the development of examination facilities (also known as Maintenance facilities) for periodic maintenance of Electric locomotives.
As of now, Hubballi has received 3 WAG-9HC Electric locos. They have been numbered as 43045, 43046, and 43047. The new locomotives are yet to be commissioned.
Hubballi will get a total of 7 WAG-9HC locos (43021, 43022, 43037, 43040 and including the already received 3 WAG-9HC). These were earlier allotted to Krishnarajapuram but have been re-allocated to Hubballi.
Until now, Hubballi Diesel Loco Shed was a pure Diesel Loco Shed. But the newly added Electric locomotives will be maintained at DLS Hubballi.
On 13th September, Road 8,9 & 10 of Hubballi yard and 2 lines of Diesel Loco Shed was successfully electrified and commissioned. Both sections are now charged with 25kV OHE holding.
Apart from it, A new pitline and gantry will be constructed with 2X50 Ton cranes. The proposed Shed number 9 and Extension of Road 6 of the Repairs section have also been included.
The tender also mentions about the development of Diesel Loco Shed, Hubballi. Sprawling across 75 acres, the state-of-the-art Hubballi Diesel Loco Shed was established in June 1999.
The shed was opened with 12 imported locos in 1999. The Loco shed was built to house Eco-friendly and High powered locomotives in collaboration with General Motors (GM).
