The Renovated Janata Bazaar in the heart of the Hubballi city which was inaugurated with much fanfare nearly 2 years back, is yet to be opened for public use.
Hubballi Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL) had undertaken the renovation of Janata Bazaar at a cost of ₹18.35 Crores. The renovated Bazaar was inaugurated on 10th December 2022.
Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) vacated the vendors of Janata Bazaar in November 2020 to facilitate the renovation of the bazaar.
The vendors were allocated a temporary space near the Clark’s Inn hotel located near Hosur Cross on Gokul Road. However, even after 2 years since the inauguration, the bazaar is yet to be opened for public use.
According to the sources, there are some issues while allocating shops to the vendors in the renovated Janata Bazaar. HDMC and HDSCL have failed to sort out the issues.
Hubballi Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL) has reconstructed the Janata Bazaar at a cost of ₹18.35 Crores. The built-up area of the bazaar is around 96,000 sq.ft.
The structure of the building is Basement+ Ground floor+ 3 floors + Terrace. Parking is provided in the basement, Shops have been provided on the Ground and 1st floor, and office space on the 2nd floor.
The ground floor has 50 platforms (kattas) and the first floor has 71 kattas. Also, the ground floor has 31 shops and the first floor has 22 shops.

The building has reserved 6,500 sq. ft. of space on the second floor and 14,000 sq. ft. of space on the third floor for commercial purposes. It also includes facilities like Lifts, Toilets, and Drinking water.
