According to a press release from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), South West Monsoon 2022 is likely to enter Hubballi Dharwad by June 5th.
As per IMD, South West Monsoon is likely to enter Karnataka (southern parts) by June 3rd or 4th. The monsoon will cover the entire Karnataka around June 10th or 11th.
In a tweet, IMD said that ‘Monsoon 2022 has set in over Kerala yesterday i.e 29th May, three days ahead of its Normal date of Onset of Monsoon i.e on June 1st.
Following conditions are considered while declaring the onset of Monsoon:
- The depth of westerly winds extends up to 4.5 km above the Mean Sea Level.
- The strength of the westerly winds has increased over the southeast Arabian Sea and is about 15-20kts (25-35kmph).
- The average outgoing Longwave Radiation(OLR) over Kerala is about 189.7 W/M2 (thus <200 W/M2).
