Karnataka brings back Weekend Curfew, revises Covid guidelines

Karnataka is witnessing an alarming rate of increase in the number of Covid-19 cases which is attributed mainly due to the Omicron variant. Hence the government has decided to bring back the Weekend Curfew in the state.

The number of Covid-19 cases is getting doubled in less than 3 days and the number stood at 2053 cases as of 4th January 2021.

The Technical Advisory Committee has suggested imposing additional containment measures to contain the spread of Covid cases and adherence to Covid Appropriate Behaviour.

The new guidelines will be effective from 10 PM of 5th January 2021 and will be effective till 5 AM of 19th January 2021. The detailed guidelines are as follows.

Night Curfew will continue to be imposed from 10 PM to 5 AM in the entire State as per the existing guidelines. All offices will function 5 days a week from Monday to Friday only.

Weekend Curfew will be imposed from Friday 10 PM to Monday 5 AM in the entire State as per the guidelines mentioned.

Pubs/ Clubs/ Restaurants/ Bars/ Hotels/ Eating places in a hotel etc will function with 50% of the seating capacity and entry will be restricted to fully vaccinated persons only.

Cinema halls/ Multiplexes/ Theatres/ Rangamandiras/ Auditorium will function with 50% of the seating capacity and entry will be restricted to fully vaccinated persons only.

Marriage Functions are permitted to be conducted involving not more than 200 people in open spaces and 100 people in closed places.

Religious places are allowed to open only for Darshana. No seva will be allowed. Entry of people will be restricted to 50 persons at any given time who are fully vaccinated.

Malls, Shopping complexes, all other stand-alone shops, and establishments will operate as usual during weekdays.

Swimming pools and Gyms will operate at 50% capacity but entry will be restricted to fully vaccinated persons. Sports complexes and Stadia are allowed to function with 50% capacity. All Rallies, Dharnas, Protests will be strictly prohibited.

Guidelines for the Weekend Curfew

Movement of individuals will remain strictly prohibited between Friday 8 PM to Monday 5 AM, except for Essential and Emergency activities as mentioned below.

Patients and their Attendants/ Persons requiring Emergency need, Eligible people intending to take vaccination will be allowed to move with minimal proof.

Shops dealing with Food, Groceries, Fruits and Vegetables, Meat and Fish, Dairy and Milk booths, and Animal fodder will be allowed to function. Street vendors are allowed to function.

Restaurants and Eateries shall be allowed only for Take away and Home delivery. All public parks will remain closed during the Weekend Curfew.

Home delivery of all items will be encouraged 24×7 to minimize the movement of individuals outside their homes.

Movement of Trains and Air travel is permitted. The movement of Public Transport, Private vehicles, and Taxis to and from Airports, Railway stations, and Bus terminals/stops/stands is allowed for facilitating the movement of passengers by Air, Rail, and Road.

The movement will be allowed only on displaying valid travel documents or tickets and strictly adhering to Covid Appropriate Behavior.

Marriage Functions are permitted to be conducted involving not more than 200 people in open spaces and 100 people in closed places strictly adhering to the guidelines.
