JSW Minerals inks pact with SWR to operate BOBSNS rakes

JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited signed an agreement with South Western Railway (SWR) to operate 5 numbers of BOBSNS rakes. The agreement was signed on 22nd December 2023.

The BOBSNS rakes will be used to transport the Iron ore from Mineral Enterprises Limited Siding, Sasalu & Swamihalli to the Steel plant of JSW located at Toranagallu.

BOBSNS rakes are one of the Special Type Wagons with ‘Side Discharge’ used to transport Iron ore. JSW has already signed a pact with SWR to operate 7 BOBSNS rakes, taking the total count to 12.

The rakes are fitted with a 22.9 Ton Axle load CASNUB 22 NL Bogie. These wagons have a carrying capacity of 61.8 Tons, the Bogies are provisioned with additional springs to carry 70 Tons.

JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited will procure 12 BOBSNS rakes from the Indian Railways. The rakes will be manufactured by Titagarh Rail System Limited, Kolkata. The first rake is expected to operate from April 2024.

JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited is investing ₹29.57 Crores per rake. A rebate of 10% will be granted to the customer on the Base freight for every booking.

The introduction of the BOBSNS wagon will ease the unloading difficulty through wagon tippler. The capacity of the rake is 3.5% more than the BOXN rake.

BOBSNS rake will save about 2 hrs of unloading time per rake of goods compared to regular BOXN rakes.

The Agreement was signed by Shri. A. Sundar, Chief Commercial Manager/Freight Marketing, SWR and Shri. Sushil Nowal, Executive Vice President (Planning and Logistics)/JSW in the presence of Shri. Satya Prakash Shastri, Principal Chief Commercial Manager/SWR, Shri. Aravinda Herle G, Deputy Chief Commercial Manger/Freight Service/SWR and JSW Officials.
