The ‘Eat Right Station’ certification is awarded by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to railway stations that set benchmarks in providing safe and nutritious food to passengers.
Hubballi Railway Station has received a 5-star rating from FSSAI. The 5-star rating indicates ‘Exemplary’ efforts made by SWR authorities in providing safe and hygienic food to the passengers.
The Food ecosystem at Railway Stations is often large and varied. It comprises Catering cum Retail outlets, Food plaza, Mobile food vendors on Railway platforms, Base kitchens, etc.
Railway Stations that fulfill benchmark criteria will be recognized as ‘Eat Right Station’ through plaques and/or Certificate of Excellence. The audit is based on 5 parameters.
The 5 parameters of the Audit are; Compliance with Food Safety and Hygiene, Healthy diets, Food waste management, Promotion of Local and Seasonal food, Promotion & Awareness of Food Safety, and Healthy diets.
FSSAI has made 3 Audit checklists with different weightages for cooking establishments, retail units, and for the overall railway station. Based on the audit scores, the following ratings will be awarded.
5 star (85% and above) – Exemplary; 4 star (75% and above) – Full compliance; 3 star (65% and above) – Satisfactory complaince; 2 star (55% and above) – Partial compliance; Below 55% – Non compliance.
