The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has organised ‘International Tennis Games’ at Dharwad from October 15 (today) to 22. Ranked tennis players from various countries will participate in the event.
International Tennis Federation (ITF) is organizing the tournament at Rajadhyaksha Pavilion at the premises of the Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Association (DDLTA).
The tournament will include the participation of 44 players from 20 different countries, including 12 Indian players. The total prize of the tournament is $25,000.
The matches have been organized from 9 AM to 5 PM from October 15 to 22. DC Gurudatt Hegde stated that the entry to watch the matches will be free for everyone.
Ranked Tennis Players from the USA, France, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Korea, Sweden, Great Britain, Italy, Vietnam, Australia, India, Nepal, Switzerland, Taipei, Argentina, Ukraine, Germany, Iraq and Cameroon will showcase their skills in the tournament.
A total of 32 singles qualifying matches and 32 main draw matches will be held on October 15 and 16. A total of 27 players, including 18 from India, will participate in the qualifying round. The main draw matches will be held from October 17.
District In-charge Minister Santosh Lad will inaugurate the tournament on 17th October at 8:30 AM in the presence of Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi and MLA Arvind Bellad.
Doubles matches will have a direct main draw. 16 pairs will participate in doubles. Each match will be the best of five sets. DC Gurudatt Hegde said The final matches including Doubles and Singles will be held on October 21 and 22.
The Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Institute Stadium is the first eco-friendly green stadium in the state of Karnataka. The total prize money of the tournament is about 25 thousand dollars (Rs. 20 lakh).
The Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Court has been functioning well since the time of the British authorities. Now after 17 years, Dharwad has got an opportunity to organize an international lawn tennis tournament.
Dharwad Tennis Court has a history of around 96 years. Organizing a world-class Tennis event at Dharwad will be a treat to the Sports enthusiasts of the region.
The tennis court at Dharwad has five synthetic USTA-rated tennis courts. It also has a well-equipped gym with state-of-the-art facilities and well-trained tennis coaches.
