Dharwad to host International Tennis Championship from October 15

The International Tennis Federation will organize the ‘International Tennis Games’ at Dharwad from October 15 to 22. Ranked tennis players from various countries will participate in the event.

Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Association President Gurudatt Hegde said that this will be a good opportunity for the young sports talents of North Karnataka to witness international-level tennis matches at Dharwad.

He was speaking to the media persons yesterday morning at the Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Stadium premises and explained about the international level tournament.

The Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Institute Stadium is the first eco-friendly green stadium in the state of Karnataka. The total prize money of the tournament is about 25 thousand dollars (Rs. 20 lakh).

The Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Court has been functioning well since the time of the British authorities. Now after 17 years, Dharwad has got an opportunity to organize an international lawn tennis tournament.

Dharwad Tennis Court has a history of around 96 years. Organizing a world-class Tennis event at Dharwad will be a treat to the Sports enthusiasts of the region.

The tennis court at Dharwad has five synthetic USTA-rated tennis courts. It also has a well-equipped gym with state-of-the-art facilities and well-trained tennis coaches.

Free admission will be given to school and college students and youth during the international tournament. Stores will be allowed to open for the sale of sports equipment and to provide adequate information.

As a part of the event, an application has been invited for Lifetime membership of the Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Association from those who are interested in the sport of tennis.

District In-charge Minister Santosh Lad will inaugurate the new facilities constructed at the State President Pavilion of Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Association at 9:30 AM on 2nd October.
