Dharwad District Hospital gets ₹9.9 Crores for infrastructure upgrade

District Hospital, Dharwad will receive a grant of ₹9.9 Crores to facilitate the procurement of a few health equipments. The fund will also be used to upgrade the basic infrastructure of the hospital.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundurao stated that upgrading health services in government hospitals and at various levels is a top priority.

The minister said, “A large area of land has to be identified if a medical college has to be sanctioned for Dharwad. We will identify the land and release funds for the same”.

The minister visited Dharwad District Hospital recently and inspected the facilities of various wards. He said that the District hospital is functioning well and has maintained standards.

“There is a shortage of doctors and medical staff in various hospitals in the state. We will issue orders to recruit around 800 health staff within a month” he added.

The minister announced that there are 1500 vacancies for doctors and 1500 vacancies for specialist doctors. Counseling has begun for the recruitment of MBBS and MD graduates.

The recruited graduates will be deployed for service in rural areas. The minister visited various wards, interacted with patients and inspected the healthcare equipments.

The minister visited the oxygen plant to gather information on its working and insisted that the staff operate the plant only when required or once a week.

Dr. Sangappa Gabi, the District Surgeon of the District Hospital, explained the facilities and functions of various departments of the hospital to the Minister.
