Dharwad citizens want HDMC to retake maintenance of Kelageri Lake

Dharwad citizens requested the District Collector to take over the maintenance of Kelageri Lake from the Agricultural University and hand it over to the HDMC or the Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority.

Citizens pointed out that Kelageri Lake, built by Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, has become polluted due to poor maintenance by the Agricultural University.

Dharwad DC Divya Prabhu recently visited the Kelageri Lake and inspected the lake. During the visit, citizens submitted a request to hand over the maintenance of the lake to HDMC/HDUDA.

The residents complained that the lake is filled with silt, overgrown with weeds, and contaminated with sewage water, which is causing inconvenience to the morning walkers.

Dharwad District Commissioner Divya Prabhu inspected the area around the lake and announced that a joint meeting of officials will be held to address public concerns and take necessary action.

Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation and the Hubli Dharwad Urban Development Authority have allocated ₹5 crores each for the Kelageri Lake’s redevelopment plan.

A report is being prepared at an estimated cost of ₹35 Crores for the Comprehensive development of the Lake and Construction of a park. The report will be submitted to the government soon.

Dharwad DC said that a joint meeting will be held with the officials of the Municipal Corporation, Urban Development Authority, Water Board and Agricultural University and a decision will be taken.
