ACC Energy to set up 5 Gwh Lithium-ion cell factory at Dharwad

ACC Energy Storage, a fully-owned subsidiary of Rajesh Exports Limited will set up a 5 GWh Lithium-ion cell manufacturing unit at Dharwad to make Battery packs for Electric vehicles.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries launched the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Advance Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage in June 2021 for setting up Giga-scale ACC manufacturing facilities in India.

ACC Energy Storage is one of three beneficiaries selected for the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Advance Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has awarded a capacity of 30 GWh to three beneficiaries namely Ola Cell Technologies Private Limited, ACC Energy Storage Private Limited and Reliance New Energy Battery Storage Limited. The budgetary outlay of the scheme is ₹18,100 Crores.

Gigawatt hours, abbreviated as GWh, is a unit of energy representing One Billion (1,000,000,000) Watt hours and is equivalent to One million kilowatt hours. Gigawatt hours are often used as a measure of the output of large electric power stations.

Advance Chemistry Cells (ACC) are the new generation of advanced storage technologies that can store Electric energy either as Electro-Chemical or as Chemical energy and convert it back to Electric energy as and when required.

The technology for the Advanced Chemistry Cells being developed by the 3 beneficiaries is in advanced stages of development. The total investment to date by these beneficiaries has reached up to ₹2090 Crores.

To monitor the progress of the work of the selected beneficiaries, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has appointed Engineers India Limited (EIL) as Independent Engineers.
