South Western Railway (SWR) has received a significant budget allocation for the 2024-25 fiscal year in the Union Budget 2024-25. Currently, 31 projects are in progress in Karnataka, covering a total length of 3840 kilometers amounting to ₹47,016 Crores.
Karnataka has been allocated its highest-ever budget of ₹7559 Crores for the year 2024-25 for working expenses, which is 9 times more than the average Budget grant of ₹835 Crores from the year 2009-14.
From 2014 to 2024, the average annual increase in New Line significantly rose to 163 kilometers, which is 1.4 times higher than the average of 113 kilometers per year from 2009 to 2014.
In the last 10 years, 638 Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges have been constructed across Karnataka, ensuring safe passage for road commuters.
A total of 59 railway stations in Karnataka are undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with the goal of transforming them into world-class facilities.

During 2009-2014, electrification averaged 18 km per year. Between 2014-2024, electrification significantly increased to an average of 317 km per year, marking an 18-fold surge over the past decade.

In SWR, 46 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at the cost of ₹1103 crore, and 5 major stations are also being redeveloped.
Yesvantpur station is being developed at a cost of ₹367 Crores, and the tentative completion date of the project is July 2025. Bengaluru Cantonment station is being developed at a cost of ₹484 Crores, and the tentative completion date of the project is October 2025.
