Hubballi Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System (HDBRTS) and North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) will get 25 electric buses each to promote Green Energy reducing air pollution.
A couple of months back BYD Olectra had conducted trial runs of the Electric Bus on the HDBRTS Corridor. HDBRTS had suggested some modifications and Olectra had agreed to it.
Earlier it was planned to deploy all 50 buses in HDBRTS Corridor. But now only 25 buses will be used to run BRTS services and the rest 25 buses will be used to run City and Sub Urban services from Hubballi Dharwad.
As per the agreement, Operators will buy buses and HDBRTS pays to manage the buses. The operator will supply (or buy) buses and also set up necessary infrastructure like Charging Stations. Each bus is expected to cost around Rs 2.1 Crores.
