South Western Railways (SWR) is planning to increase the Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) of Train number 20661/62, Bengaluru Hubli Dharwad Vande Bharat Express, to 130 kmph.

Addressing the press, Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna stated that a decision on this matter will be made within one or two weeks.

Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna spoke to reporters after chairing a meeting on the progress of railway projects under the jurisdiction of SWR at Rail Soudha, Hubballi.

Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, is a Premium high-speed train that connects Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, to Hubballi Dharwad, offering commuters a safe and comfortable journey.

The Railway Board has already proposed to increase the section speed (Maximum Permissible Speed, MPS) between Bengaluru and Dharwad to 130 kmph.

This comes as a good news to the rail travellers of the region, as the increase in the Maximum Permissible Speed will reduce the travel time between the two cities.

As many as 53 sections across India have been proposed to be upgraded to 130kmph. In the South Western Railway (SWR) zone, 5 sections have been proposed.
