Land acquisition of Dharwad Belagavi direct Railway line to complete by December

The Land acquisition for one of the most anticipated railway lines in Karnataka, the Dharwad Belagavi direct railway line is likely to be completed by December 2024.

Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna spoke to reporters after chairing a meeting with the Deputy commissioners of both Dharwad and Belagavi districts.

MoSR V. Somanna stated that both the Commissioners of Dharwad and Belagavi districts have agreed to hand over the required land to the South Western Railway (SWR).

Direct railway line between Dharwad and Belagavi is a long pending demand from the people of North Karnataka. The current connectivity via Londa is a circuitous route.

About Dharwad Belagavi Direct Railway Line: 90km long Dharwad Belagavi direct railway line will have 11 railway stations (including 4 existing railway stations). They are as follows.

Dharwad, Kyarkoppa, Mammigatti, Tegur, Kittur, Hulikatti, MK Hubballi, Bagewadi, Kanavikarvinkoppa, Desur and Belagavi. Kyarkoppa and Desur will be the junctions.

MoS Late Shri Suresh Angadi ordered a survey for the Dharwad Belgaum Railway line in 2019. He managed to sanction the railway line at a cost of ₹927.40 crores in September 2020.

As it is a cost-sharing project, then Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri B S Yediyurappa had sanctioned ₹463 Crores to the railway line in the Karnataka Budget 2021-22.

The new Dharwad-Belagavi direct railway line is expected to reduce the travel time to one and a half hours. Currently, trains take more than 2 hours to cover the distance.
