The regional center is going to be South India’s second Lalita Kala Academy. As of now, there are only 7 Lalita Kala academies in India.
The foundation stone laying ceremony has been organized at Scouts and Guides Organization near Court circle, Dharwad informed Dharwad DC Gurudatta Hegde.
Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi says that “The center will have Art Galleries, Studios, Library, and other facilities to promote Research in Visual Arts and encourage local artists”.
Lalit Kala Academy is India’s National Academy of Fine arts. It is established by the Government of India to promote Indian visual art in and outside the country.
Dharwad DC Gurudatta Hegde said that “Various National and State level institutes are coming to Dharwad district, Lalita Kala Academy Regional Centre has joined the list”.
“It is a matter of pride that our district is getting LKA regional center. It will benefit Karnataka as a whole, helps local and state level artists to get more opportunities” he added.
The experts at Lalita Kala Academy will give training to the local artists. The regional center also helps them to showcase their talent and gives them space to perform their arts.
The center will start functioning in a temporary building from this year. It is likely to boost the visual arts of the region, also promoting Dharwad as the Cultural capital of Karnataka.
