There is some good news for North Karnataka! KIMS, Hubballi will soon get a state-of-the-art Virological Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL).
An agreement was signed between the directors of KIMS and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)at Hubballi’s KIMS Hospital, North Karnataka’s largest hospital.
The research lab will be established at an area of 27 guntas inside the KIMS campus. The land for the lab has already been allocated for the project.
The state-of-the-art laboratory will be fully sponsored by the Central government. The cost of setting up the Research laboratory is estimated to be ₹16 Crores.
Union minister and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi had pursued the matter with then Health Minister JP Nadda to allocate the Virological Research and Diagnostic Laboratory to Hubballi.
The laboratory will facilitate Research, Prevention and Disease control of Infectious diseases like H1N1, Covid, Chikungunya, and Nipah. It is a matter of great pride for us that KIMS Hubballi is one of the institutes selected for setting up the laboratory.
Under the Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, 13 new laboratories of BSL3 facilities will come up (4 Mobile laboratories and 9 Institutional laboratories).

Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi has thanked PM Narendra Modi and Health Minister JP Nadda and expressed his eagerness to perform Bhoomi Pooja at the earliest.
