Stanford University releases the list of the top 2% of scientists in the world in two categories. They are as follows: 1) Career-wise and 2) Excelled in the previous year.
The career-wise list includes everyone of all ages whereas the second list includes the scientists who have excelled in the previous year.
The career-wise list is important as it recognises the scientists who have been contributing for all the years. The second list is of those who have excelled in the last year, which gives a true picture of actively participating scientists.
One drawback of the career-wise list is that the Senior scientists who have published more papers will stay consistently at the top of the list than the junior scientists.
